Evening all, im lookin at putting some mil surplud tires on my f150 xlt. My base is selling some gor a good deal my question is bc of how heavy those tires are do i meed to upgrade my rear end?? I had a set of 39.5 inch iroks super swampers on it but they seemed lighter than the 37 mil tires. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks yall

Those bad boys are probably pretty heavy. Aside from needing new rims (16.5"), it's probably a good idea to upgrade your rear axle, and upgrade the front CV axles. What's your gearing?

If you are still running the 8.8 rear and TTB 44 in the front, then you are really pushing the axles. Especially if it's more than a street queen. I wouldn't spend the money to upgrade to CVs in the front. I bet you could swap in a D60 for what a set of RCVs cost.

Which surplus tire are you getting? They have a couple different styles, and form what I've heard none are especially good tire. But the old MT/R style ones seem to do better than the others (from what I've read).

Also, you will probably have a hard time finding 16.5" wheels in 5x5.5 bp.

The probably are not such a good deal if you have add in the price to buy new wheels. I'd certainly never even consider doing it if I had to buy wheels and change out the rear end...it's guaranteed you'll come out behind.

I'm not sure why you'd upgrade all sorts of stuff to fit a tire. With the tires being heavier, you may or may not benefit from heavier duty shocks....but I don't see any other issues since you've already run 39" tires (I assume with no issue) and these 37's are not even that big.

I currently am running 16.5 wheels on it, And the swap for a bigger rear was always in the plans the 39s were already being run on it when i bought it. I took them off because one had a leak and put some 34 inch equivalent tires on it bc thats all the shop had at the time and i needed the truck to get to work and back from base, Since then bought a 15 hyundai elantra to get back and forth the truck is my baby just tryin to make it right and the tires seemed like a good deal considering thw cost of boggers and tires like them. They are the mtr i believe as well.
