"Pinch Flat"?? That's a bicycle term when running tubes...
Okay.

Then what is "Canadian" for the automotive version? Can't wait to hear it.

Meanwhile...

Is it really a shock absorber's job to keep suspension from bottoming out? I labor under the impression that a damper (shock absorber) should control spring oscillation. A spring's job is to support the vehicle for the surface it is driven on and in the speed range it is driven in.

As for the OP, I agree with both techrep and Bad500Chris:

$2000... 5100's all around and a decent set of A/T's
Good Tires, Coilovers and UCAs will get you really far without breaking the bank.

Hmm... Rolling a bead...

In a tubeless tire there is nothing to "pinch" duh.

One can easily pinch and puncture a sidewall with the wheel bead on a tubeless tire. Rolling a bead is a different way to let air out of your tire. Duh.

Turns out that the 285/75R17 tires on Ford OEM rims fit with absolutely no problem. No level or lift required. Absolutely no rubbing at all.

Noticed a big difference in ride quality off road with the new setup -- having more sidewall really tamed the ride. Ran these tires at 40psi.

Surprisingly, didn't notice any real negative characteristics on road (other than tread noise) getting to the trailhead. Truck tracked well and didn't wander. This surprised me since most people comment that switching to LT tires did provide as smooth a ride as the P tires.

Definitely was a worthwhile purchase and a great upgrade.

Appreciate everyone's input and advice.

That's a nice look. While it is a bit strange to go from new 20" rims to last gen 17" wheels I was actually looking for pics of old OE rims on 13gen trucks (to get an idea of what rocking budget dedicated winter / summer combos would look like).

I was told recently by both Goodyear and the tire shop that my Duratracs should run at 37-40 psi, same as the stock Fortitudes. I topped it up to 47 all around and there is no longer the 'death wobble' at high speeds and the tires feel firm, but the ride quality has not suffered. Honestly the amount of people claiming that the P- to E-range switch results in bone-jarring ride is probably down to them running the Es at 60-80psi, which would understandably feel like a shopping cart.

Thanks! This was a bit of an experiment for me. I wanted more sidewall, so downsizing the rim made sense. I didn't want to invest a lot before I knew how the tires would affect the ride. And I heard the best chance for fitting tires this big without a lift or level we're OEM rims So when I saw these beat up 17" 2010 rims for 75 a piece, I took them.

I actually like the way they look on the truck. And now that the 20s are back on, I miss them.

My only complaint is the thread pitch on the lugs is different on the 2016 so I can't use the lug nuts that came with the rims, therefore so, I can't attach the center caps.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix that, I'm all ears.

Glad I saw this thread, I'm in the same boat with almost the same conditions.

I'm thinking about first doing a Level Kit and 5100s, as my Open Country A/T 2 in 17 inch have some life left. Can anyone recommended a level kit for me....and where are the 5100s available for $350? Haven't seen that low before.

This plan make sense?

I bought my four 5100s from Stage3Motorsports for $349 shipped in April this year.

Now I'm looking on their website and only see them offered as fronts and rears. You might call them for their four-shock package price. Meanwhile, the 5100s are your leveling kit; the fronts are configurable upon installation for five different ride height settings from stock to 2.1" lift.

Fronts - http://www.stage3motorsports.com/24-...nt-Shocks.html - $209.95 for the pair and free shipping

Rears - http://www.stage3motorsports.com/33-...ear-Shock.html - $84.95 each and free shipping = $169.90

No need for a level. Use the 5100s to adjust height in the front.

the price of 5100s are always around $350. $200 for the front and $150 for the rears. Just poke around until you find the lowest price.
