Default '01 2WD V6 Trophy Project

I want to turn my truck into a baja style racer. But I'm not exactly sure how. Do I even need a lift? What sort of tires should I get? What suspension modifications should I try? Shocks? Engine modifications? Lights? Fenders? Skid plates?

Any advice is appreciated.

There is a ginormous laundry list of recommend parts we could give you...

Before we go that route... are you going to continue to drive this as your daily driver, or are you ready to say "OK, this truck's sole purpose is now going to be a baja truck"?

Because that will dictate how you'll want to start the mod process.

It does need to stay my daily driver. Im on sort of a tight budget. Also i need to know if this is something i can do over a period of time. This way i can make modifications as i make money. Im not a mechanic but i want to learn how to do all this myself. I cant take my truck completely apart on the weekends because i will need to drive during the week. So i will have to take it somewhat slow. Anyways, I appreciate the help.

You want to make your truck a desert truck? Bro do some research there are so many variables. I used to research that **** every night for like a year because it interested me and I still don't know much. We wouldn't even know where to start especially if you don't have a clue.

I true race truck will run upwards of $50-100k

Dixon Brothers racing makes bolt on long travel suspensions, You are looking at about 5-7000 completed.

Again this is going to be a long term project. I'm not trying to get a list of parts and go out on a shopping spree tomorrow. Also, this isn't going to be a pro truck running the baja 1,000 anytime soon; it's just a weekend off roader. I just need to know where to start. And from what I understand a good suspension should be my first step. It's going to take time, but trust me I have plenty. From what I've seen, Dixon Bros has a good suspension at a good price. I'm going to look into getting that on the truck as well as offroad wheels and tires first.
