Default What wheels to get

I am getting a 2007 F150 4x4 XLT SCC 5.4l 3:73 6.5' box tow package
will be pulling a 6000lbs. trailer
Ques. is which wheels to get 17",18", 20" I know that the 18&20 will drop payload by 500lbs. Will the 17" give better pulling power but less mpg or is there much diff.
Most of the towing will be in mountianous country as where I live there is only 2 ways ,up or down.
What is your thoughts on this?
Thanks
Don

I would just get what you like. I pull 6500lbs with 18" wheels with no problem. Your not even close to the max capacity to worry about it and I can't see there being a big difference in gas mileage to get something you may not even like. If your going to be towing a lot and gas mileage is a concern you probably should be looking at getting a diesel. What are your pulling, travel trailer? How big?

Default what wheels to get

Pulling a KZ 2503 Travel trailer 25ft
GVWR=6868 LB
UVR =4919LB
Loaded=6000lbs or less
tongue weight about 720lbs
pull with WD hitch
most the towing is in the mountians here
have been towing with 1999 dodge 1500 ram 2wd guad cab 5.2l 3:55rear it pulls with no problems on the flats but needs a few more ponies on the hills
White what kind of mpg do you get loaded and unloaded?
thanks

No wonder you had problems with the dodge.... it had a 3:55 rear end lol

Anyway.... you wont be getting very good mileage at all. I would say around 12 possible less.... it just depends on how you drive lol

yes LovetheTide that is the trouble the 3:55s but like you say 12mpg with f150 works out to 14-15mpg Canadian so not bad at all. I got 13mpg out of the dodge was just not enough ponies on the hills, where as the f150 has about 55hp more and the 3:73s so should make for good towing.
