Tire trouble!!!!
I am soooo frustrated right now! I have a 2006 FX4 Supercab. I got the auto spring 2.5" leveling kit. I put it on several months ago. It was summer time when I put it on so I didn't worry about tires but now with the snow starting to fly I decided I needed some tires. I did so much research about what size tires I could fit in the fender well and what size would fit on my stock rim....after all the research I learned about the biggest I could safely go would be a Nitto 295/70/18. So I saved up the $1000 and ordered a set of Nitto Trail Grapplers MT in the 295/70/18.
A few day ago my tires came in so I went down to the tire shop, very excited. They pulled off the driver side front wheel, dismounted my stock tire, and put the big Nitto on. He threw it on the hub, secured it with the lug nuts and let the jack down on the ground to make sure it wasn't going to rub. As soon as my truck hit the ground the ball joint on the upper arm was about to push the ball joint through the sidewall of the tire. The shop suggested I get some spacers but I like to do things right the first time so I called the local 4x4 shop and he said I just needed a set of aftermarket rims.
I went to the shop and picked up a set of Moto Metal 951's in 9"x18" with 5" of backspacing. I came home and did some research and this site said these tires would fit with this wheel since it had more than 4.5" of backspacing.
Again I went back to the tire shop very excited about getting it all mounted up. He took my Moto rims, mounted the Nitto, threw it on the hub. Well this time the upper ball joint had plenty of room but the tire rubbed on the back of the fender well when I turned the steering wheel to the left.
So what is the deal? Almost everyone on here says you can mount a LT295/70/18 on the stock rim with a leveling kit with no problem........... I don't know what the problem. I'm so frustrated! I need tires bad so I went ahead and ordered a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers in 275/70/18. These tires arent as tall as I wanted but I dont know what else to do. Did anyone else have the same problems??

It would have taken alot of trimming and although my truck is an 06 it only has 30k miles on it. I"m not crazy about taking the sawzall to it! I just don't see how other people on here have fit that exact tire. Maybe their tires rub but they don't care enough to fix it correctly. So i guess I will just have to be happy with the 33.27 tall terra grapplers.

I was at the tire shop when I was trying to get them on. I didn't think of taking pictures because I was so pissed off. As far as the triming goes, according to things I have read I should not have to trim anything. I have a friend with 285/70/18 on a 2005 FX4 with the same Auto Spring 2.5" kit and he doesn't rub anywhere. I have seen it with my own eyes. I don't know why mine doesn't work but I know that that setup didn't work for me.
