RE: Custom spare
I was messing around with my spare yesterday and after mounted it and like the way it looks on the truck. Now question (researched came up empty) is what is the tow rating on a spare wheel (not tire the wheel)? What kind of structural integrity do the steel spare wheels have? I tow a 5000 lb (dry weight) travel trailer.

Being a full size spare it should be the same as the factory wheels. It often is stamped on the wheel, Max psi and max load. It so it will be on the inside lip, usually between the bead and the ridge about 3/4" from the bead. Most commonly near the valve stem.
I have white lettering paint, use to use when I ran the letters out. You can get red, google it. But since this was a mock up I used red enamel, aka wife's red nail polish. Yeah took some heat for that!
The reason I ask about spare wheel is, the spare has a 1-1 1/2 inch lip that folds into wheel and has 4 spot welds about 3 to 4 inches long. So the steel spares are 2 pc wheels, where as my stock wheels are aluminum one pc. Just was wondering structurally sound for long term use and towing. I like the super 8s but can't get them in 6x135. So the spare wheel came to mind.
