Offset is the distance from hub mounting to the center of the wheel. You can have zero, positive or negative offset. Makes for either an inward or outward mounting. Positive, the wheel sticks out toward the side of the truck further. A wider wheel can stick out further to the side but have a zero offset. Think about a deep dish wheel, it will likely have a very positive offset. Wheel spacers will give the appearance of a positive offset. I think most stock wheels in most vehicles are negatively offset.

you can find a few good online tire calculators that show side by side comparisons to 2 different wheels.

Stock 20" wheels are 8.5" wide with +44 offset (I think). Close enough for you start research tough. the wheels equipped on an XL model may be different actually.
Enter those values into a wheel calculator along with the wheel you want to select and read the results to see what it indicates -calculator will say something like "this wheel has 30mm more poke than stock". That would mean it sticks out 30mm further than what you have now.
