Getting new tires!!
Spending $$$ isnt fun, but i am excited to get some new shoes. I have a 4X2 CrewCab Lariat, Dk Stone/Tan with 20" Oem wheels. I have Perelli Scorpions now with over 50k miles on them. I think they are still in good condition, but my fiance thinks they look worn and suggested i get new ones...um ok, no need to twist my arm, gladly. I just moved to boise from texas. Boise doesnt get much rain and the winters arent that bad. But on ice, the scorpions are too good. I am thinking of getting some that are a little more aggressive, like terra grapplers or cooper lts. i like that way both of these look. I wanted to go a little bigger, like 305 50 20, but have heard that i will need to keep an eye on the air pressure and rotate them pretty often, so i was thinking of keeping the suggested 275 55 20 tires but going a little more agressive like the grapplers or ltz's. I am also toying with idea of a 2" leveling kit. So, should i go with something a little more agressive, or should i stick with a street tire like i have and just be careful during the winters. Please help!!!
The nitto terra grappler is a great tire, just ordered and put on a set of 33's for my buddies tundra, got them through discounttiredirect.com shipped to his front door for $650 I believe they were. Obviously, they'll be more for you since you have 20's and he had 16's but still the best bargain I've seen, they beat all the local buy 3 get 1 tire free deals at tire shops around here. I'd say get a leveling kit cuz it looks bad *** gives you more clearence for your front tires. Get the 2.5 or 3 inch from hellbentsteel.com best price out there and the parts are powdercoated too!
I have a set of terra grapplers in 33's, i love them, they do well on ice and really tread water well. Also, go with the leveling kit, you wont be disappointed, very cheap mod and does alot for your truck appearance. I have a autosprings powder coated one. 80 bucks off ebay.
Ok, so what did you decide? I am in the same boat. Moved from Texas to Denver and have a 2wd. It was a little dicey last winter with the crappy pirellis. I have a 2in level kit i am ready to install and am looking at Cooper Zeons and Nitto TG as my top choices. Probably will go 275/60R20. I am still on stock rims.
from my experience if you are on solid ice tires are still going to spin like crazy. a wider tire i would imagine would do better on ice but a skinnier tire would do better on snow seeing as it would tread through the snow instead of just flatten it. with a lot of tread on snow you should have no problems though
