Question changing tire size question

I have the 275/55/R20 tires on factory black 20 inch rims.
If I want to switch to 17 inch rims, is 275/70/R17 the best size to go with.
Also, if I understand correctly going to 17 inch tires will give me either the same, or better ride quality as the sidewall will be taller?
If I am mistaken about that, I apologize. I don't tow anything, so that's not a concern.
Thanks!

Go on one of the tire calculator websites & do a comparison to be sure !! ...I just swapped mine & 275/55R20 & it translates to 275/65R18 & the18'' reads .04 km faster on the speedo.. So is ideally close !! My other 16 is on 17'' rubber & I remember you can get real close to your speedo reading as we;; !!

That's what I did. looked like 275/70/R17 was the closest, but wanted to make sure.
