Is this true?
I need new speakers for my truck. I just installed a new sony xplod deck about a month ago, and my front driver side speaker is starting to rattle and sound chitty. But I've been reading around and have read that you will loose all bass with aftermarket speakers. Is this true, cause I don't want to have a buy a subwoofer, do to lack of space and price. Shouldn't i be able to adjust the bass with the aftermarket deck?
Thanks

You can definitely get a decent sound with just the deck and some nice aftermarket coaxials. Just make sure to get 3- or 4-way speakers, and check to confirm that they have a nominal wattage rating greater than that of the new deck, which shouldnt be too hard. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Thank you! that helps a lot
So your saying get speakers like this (not necessarily this brand) but it says coaxial

or would a three way like this be better?

The 3-ways should be better. I had in my mind that coaxial meant more than one sound range, but maybe it relates exclusively to 2-way speakers. Basically, the greater range of sound produced by the speaker, the crisper and more intricate the music is. Just make sure that both the peak and rms rating are greater on the speakers than those of the head unit, to make sure you dont blow the speakers. Most aftermarket speakers can easily handle the output of a deck alone, so that shouldnt be much of a problem.

No 3 way is a 3way. It can be coax or component. Component I'm suggesting consists of a midrange, tweeter and crossover they will be far better than a coax unless the coax is top of the line...

Also, if youre doing it yourself, and for the first time, just replacing the speakers is an easy route. When you bring an external amplifier into the picture, thats a couple hundred more dollars, and a lot more wire to run.
