Thoughts on 2015 F150 JBL Concert Edition Sound System Upgrades?
#11
The Kicker system retails at far above $400.00.
http://www.kicker.com/PF150C13
Even at that, the Kicker system offers a single driver with 200 watts of power.
Whereas the JBL replaces front and rear speakers (two way, Poly cones), adds two eight inch dual voice coil subwoofers and an 8 channel amp.
All digitally tuned and aligned.
Yes, JBL is more expensive.
Yes, JBL offers far more gear/power.
Yes, JBL is designed for '15 Crew cabs.
Not really fair to compare the two. Especially when one is technically antiquated, and therefore is being sold for about the cost to make.

1.) The kicker system isn’t available for the f150 yet, and any add ons are “cut in” solutions
2.) JBL has 2 8’s vs a single 10 inch sub, compared to the kicker.
3.) JBL system is a true Audio SYSTEM upgrade, it upgrades the sound starting at the very back of the stereo, to the speakers, includes that amp, DSP, and time alignment (again, read my attached email convo, it is more articulate).
The best thing to do, if you're interested in installing kicker vs jbl, is to sound test it at the dealership or dealers. Both investments are significant and is always good to test both out first!

$1295, which is the same listed price for the 2014 that a certain dealer has been selling at $475.
I agree though, they both are significant upgrades and it would be interesting to hear them both.

I looked and it appears that package only upgrades by adding a sub and amping the existing door speakers.
The JBL system includes new door speakers, two subs. Most JBL MSRP I've learned is including installation.

JBL SETUP for Ford F150
Dee - I did. I went to Car Toys in the DFW area and had one installed. It was certainly an upgrade from the factory system - but I just didn't think for the money it performed as I would have expected. I do believe that if someone had it installed and was not used to having aftermarket systems - they would be happy but I have always upgraded my vehicles with stuff like MB Quartz - JL - Alpine etc.. so it wasn't something I especially thought was up to my liking so i ended up go with Focal separates in the front doors - Focal full range in the rear and an Alpine MMVV75 running a ported JL Audio 8 inch sub under the seat. It totally blew the JBL away in my opinion.
With that said - the JBL Concept is an upgrade and sounded clean but just didn't have the hit i like.
Hope this helps.

Hey it is Dee here from Car Toys (car audio people). I wanted to see if anyone has had this installed to their trucks and what their feedback on it was?
I had a chance to check out the demo in the new truck months ago and enjoyed it but want to see what others thought.
I would like to hear from you!

I think the Kicker is a better solution for 2015. No speakers kinda suck but I guess that means I can pick out any speaker I want as long as its under $1000 It`ll be almost as good. For $2500 I`d prefer a full custom solution that I pieced myself.
I like how the 2015 sub does not sit under the seat so any system taking up that space wont work for me. I like the interior tags, the headrest might be a bit much. The outside badge is definitely too much. Considering most people with custom systems tend to like the badge delete look. Sponsored rides excluded of course

I bought my truck with this installed. No amount of eq or audio adjustments will fix the lousy bass this produces. For the price there's no way i would but this big plastic hunk of hunk of junk. I'm very frustrated with it.
Certain songs or frequencies sound ok. Others are terrible. I even pulled out the old cd stack to be sure it wasn't caused by the media type. Still underwhelming. At low volume the door speakers try to make bass they can't make. At high volume the subs kick in and make a lot of noise that sounds very inaccurate to me.
For the money I'd look elsewhere. If this were $500 I would be ok with it but this marked my truck up $2k.

Dannodan - That is exactly what I mentioned in my post. I was fortunate to buy my truck and go out on my own but it was suggested that I go with that JBL concept and I just wasn't happy with it so I had it pulled out and went with FOCAL in all 4 doors - JL audio sub and Alpine AMP and that blows that JBL plastic setup out the door. It wasn't even close in comparison. Also in regards to the CarToys rep - I complained about the performance and Cartoys management came out and I will say - CarToys made the swap out with no issues. They made it right and there only concern was that the customer was happy - so it's too bad you had the dealer do the install and not CT.
