Default Sound Deadening on Roof

I am in the progress of installing Sound Deadening material in my 2018 F150 Crew Cab. What are you guys doing on the roof? Do I need to cover the majority of it or what?

The more material used is always the best. I would recommend Second Skin products such as Damplifier Pro and Mega Zorbe with self adhesive for the roof treatment.

Acoustical 3m thinsulate. SSqlt is one, but a lower grade, or you can get some better on ebay. Just make sure it is 3m acoustical thinsulate. It provides heat protection, anti rattles, and sound proofing. I also put some CLD tiles on the roof.

What is the process for getting the roof liner off/out?

I used Noico sound deadener and anti-rattle on my 2015 doors and rear wall and it does a pretty good job. But, when it rains, I can't hear anything but the rain.

To pull the roof you'll need to disconnect all pillars A, B, C, sun visor, any handles, seat belts, overhead lights, etc. Once all that is out then the head liner should just pop off fairly easily. Most shops will charge around $800+ for this job in labor alone so it's a good amount of savings if you can do it yourself. Expect it to take around a whole day for a first timer. Expect to mess up at least once or twice with the fasteners.

Be careful not to crease the liner!

If this happens you can steam them out usually.

It is my understanding that it extremely hard to get the headliner out without removing the seats (or you will basically need to crease it). So I am guessing that it is normally done with the headliner down but not out? I am talking SuperCrew. I have moonroof so I assume its even more of a PITA.

You can fold down both front seats all the way and can then use some pillows and other things to help it lay flat in the truck. Put your CLD and either 3m acoustical insulate or hydrophobic melamine foam on the roof, then put it back up.

Hardest part is removing all the pillars to do this and not breaking clips.

Moonroof doesn't really matter, except it makes it a little more pointless to do. Especially if you have the big moonroof, then it is really pointless. You can't do anything to that and very little open space around it anyway.

This is for my 2014, but you can scroll down to page 107 where the roof starts and see what I did.

Thats what I did, lay the front seats back and worked reaching in from the outside to do the roof. just used a peal and stick killmat. big difference on rain, bass seemed stronger
