Sony System in my 2011 FX4 ...Question?
Although the Sony stereo system is very nice for being factory equipped in my 2011 with full navigation, sirius, etc. the speakers could use a bit of a tweak.
I just traded in my 2008 FX4 and had an aftermarket Pioneer with a sub box under the rear seat with down shooting dual 10" Infinity subs and had Kicker KS68 in the 4 doors with an Infinity amp attached to the rear of the cab ...the system rocked.
Has anyone taken out the Sony speakers in the doors and replaced with another brand such as the Kickers ? Will I be gaining anything or no ?
Other question ...do I need to take off the whole door panels to get to the speakers ? It looks as though there are Sony speaker panels on the doors but I don't want to try and pull them off and possibly break something.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated ...
Thank you.

I have a 2010 Platinum.. I put CDT components, 6.5 (w/an extra tweeter) up front, CDT coaxials in the rear and a 12" L7 Solobaric under the rear seat.. Sounds pretty DECENT!!
can't replace the Sony HU..
u have to remove the entire door panel on all the 4 doors to get to the speakers. Best of luck.

Those speaker grills on the doors are misleading then ...they look like they just pop off.

Crutchfield tells me i can simply drop this sub in the box and run with it.
I decided to try the 1 ohm version instead of the 2.
If i fry the amp. Oh well..

All I know is the stock sony speakers put out more bass than the sub does. I find that the stock speakers are loud enough already so if it were me I would focus on changing out that sub.

There's a couple threads on here about stuffing the factory sub box and making a nice difference. I was thinking about doing this first, but once they do it, I haven't heard the feedback afterwards. I would make adjustments to factory components before going on a spending spree.
