15 Sony best route DSR1 or Forscan?
Trying to determine the best route to go, either the Forscan or DSR1 route. But see lots of conflicting info on which route has chimes or do not, proper loudness, etc. The Forscan route works better for my ideal system processor choice. But do not want to deal with deafening chimes, chimes that don't work, etc. Are there any downsides to the Forscan route that the DSR1 covers other than ease of integration?

DSR1 all day long. No splicing of the factory harness whatsoever. Including power, can-bus, and factory speaker wires. Fully controllable chimes, proper alert routing, built in fairly robust dsp with the ability to completely bypass for an external dsp of your choosing. No worry about noise from spliced rcas. I honestly don't know why people consider the forscan method when there is a plug and play integration module. Not you, just in general.
In my 2016, when I traded it in, it took all of 15 minutes to revert the entire system back to stock and reinstall the factory Sony amp.

Would mind elaborating on why the forscan route works better for your processing method? Just curious.

I'm running the JL VXi amps. The processing will be handled in those. Adding the DSR1 in the middle adds more equipment to the signal chain. I guess I need to understand more about the DSR1. I'd really hate if the DSR1 is just flattening the signal instead of getting the pure un-EQ signal. I'm running a 3 way active in the front, coax in the rear and a sub. It would be great if I could just plug in the VXi directly to the source. Programming and wiring isn't an issue. It's more not wanting super loud chimes blasting me out.

The signal is flattened by the Sony dsp/amp. It's can-bus controlled, not speaker level. By removing the Sony amp, you eliminate the factory eqcirve. As far adding an additional piece of equipment, you saving yourself a ton of work and your aren't cutting into your factory harness. Idatalink, the company that provides the factory integration side, has a long standing history of amplifier replacement. There also lots of competing SQ trucks and cars at different shows and on the diyma forum that have excellent results.

I ran an active setup in my 16, it sounded phenomenal with the DSR1. I would tell you if I didn't believe the DSR1 did the job properly. It absolutely does!

DSR1. Clean install, great flexibility. I only used Forscan to shut off the fake engine noise.
