and a lot has to do with the parametric eq in the Alpine. running that flat i have to jack up the gain almost 100% to get good slamming bass. i'm sure thats not right. adjusting the EQ allows me to lower the gain. still learning-

Tell me about it! Ive never saw as many audio settings, in a car HU as my Kenwood 892 has... It was overwhelming at 1st...

Either do that or just set it by ear. Whichever method you choose, just leave it. On your amp set your gain, then have bass boost to 0, LPF to 80-100, and adjust your subsonic to whatever sounds best to you.
Then mess with your head unit settings to what sounds best to you. Make sure you set it to where your door speakers aren't trying to play low frequencies because that's what the subs are for. Have them play your mids and highs

Woah slow down man before you clip the hell out of your amp. Google "how to set gain with a dmm"
