Kenwood DDX5901HD not working with Maestro
Hello all
Yesterday I stopped at my local stereo install shop and tried to install a Kenwood DDX 5901 HD along with the maestro ADS-RR and the FO1 steering wheel unit. The installation shop told me they tried for six hours to install the radio. It was a factory refurbished Kenwood I bought off eBay. They indicated to me that the refurbished Kenwood is supposed to communicate with the maestro box and supply a serial number. They indicate the serial number was blank and it would not communicate with the maestro box. They contacted maestro tech-support and they indicated it was a problem with the refurbished factory radio. After all was said and done they could not install the Kenwood. This has me wondering whether it really was an issue with the refurbished Kenwood radio and I would be OK if I got a brand-new Kenwood DDX series or went to the Pioneer NEX4100. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated

I put the same components into my 2013 and it was seamless. Everything has worked perfect. I don't know about the Maestro needing the DDX serial number.
Sorry I can't be more helpful, hope you get it working.

I have the same setup, except I have the DDX9902S headunit and it works flawlessly. Even hooked up the wires to the OBD II port to display gauges on the headunit. Did you go onto the iDatalink website and flash the maestro before hooking it up? Nothing communicates until you flash the unit and then choose your steering wheel settings.

It has to be a issue with the Kenwood... I recently put a refurbed Kenwood dnx892 (connected to my OBD2 port), and Maestro RR, along with the FO1 harness, Sirius/XM Tuner, and installed a oem Ford backup camera as well. I got everything, but the backup camera from Crutchfield.com. The backup cam, I got from The Camera Source.
This is in my 12 XLT, all works flawlessly together with Sync... I love this Radio, and all of its many features....
