Actually @Jimmyjudd66 ,

I went on to find pics from back then for you and I did find some that might interest you. You can see on the pic the comparison in size between the factory garbage and the C1. I ended up recycling the bracket from the factory speaker (just cut the plastic parts around it) but I could have used the bracket provided by Crutchfield as well.

You can see the end result on the rear speaker. Very simple to do, tremendous results.

Factory speaker can be removed from the bracket by cutting the 6 plastic rods.

Hey thank you so much for this! I was very interested in these and I really appreciate the fast response and sharing the pics. I will be ordering them soon. Very excited. I'm not adding a amp and like you just wanted a drop in! :)

Replacing the front speakers with high-end speakers will not get you to your goal as mentioned. It's actually going to sound horrible. Having a good, quality, ten times better than stock system does not have to be expensive nor elaborate. But it will consist of good speakers and more power. For the price of those speakers your pretty far into the build of a really good system. Before you do anything I would research(as you're doing) further into a good quality build. The basic set up for our trucks is a component set up front, disconnect the center speaker, coaxials or midbass in the rear, sub behind or under the rear seat. Husch can better enlighten you on what you will need to get signal from the radio to the amps. Then you will need either a 5 channel amp or 2 amps for your highs/mids and subs which I suggest. I went with a midbass speaker in the rear doors because I wanted the highs to come from the front. Everyone will have their opinions on this of course but this is the basic set-up. If this just isn't what you want then I suggest replacing with the higher sensitive speakers as mentioned. But you already mentioned upgrading and expensive speakers so I think it is what you want. Do like Hush suggested and plan out a system and do it right the first time. You will save time, energy and money in doing so...ask me how I know.

You can also adjust your height by making custom adaptors. If you separate your speaker from the mounting plate like above you can screw it down to a desired thickness sheet of PVC. Then cut out around it and cut your speaker hole out. I flush mounted mine on my JL Audio C3's.

For reference I had the C1-690 component for the front (they can go as low as 39Hz!) and the C1-650x coaxial in the back. Please post back once installed with the feedback, I'd love to read your opinion about it.

Good luck!

you are correct, but the JL Audio C1s aren't high end speakers. They are entry level speakers, with a price tag of $350 for the entire setup.

No, it won't :) Please don't make statements like these when you haven't tried first-hand. It actually sounds amazing, especially in the front. The C1 690 can go very low bass-wise (39Hz) and their high sensitivity allow them to require next to nothing in power to function properly. This is the reason they were built. And no, I do not work for JL Audio. You will obivously not get the equivalent of a $2000 5 channel amp with a subwoofer sound sytem; but for $350, you get a very full and pleasant sound, and the improvement over factory is incredible.

But don't take my word for it. I hope he comes back once installed with his feedback.

If that's the case, then you're the one who needs to keep up

I was asking about the c1 specifically yes! I ordered the 6.5 coax for the back to start as my rear speaker is blown. Should be in by Friday. Excited to see how they sound.

The C1 speakers will sound great. JL Audio makes great products. For stock or lower powered applications this is the way I'd recommend as well. If amplifying, I would upgrade them to something better.

This thread went from Focal Utopia M all the way to JL Audio C1....:D
