Default Adding Subwoofer to 15-17'

Hello Everyone,

I just picked up a new 2017 F150 XLT, it is equipped with the Ford Sync 3 navi. The factory stereo doesn't sound bad but i would like to add a Subwoofer. I dont want to add the kicker or OEM setup they sell.

I was told there is a plug behind the rear pillar panel. Is it possible to use that to feed a Factory integration Sound processor? Can anyone tell me what those 4 wires on the plug consist of? Speaker, ground. power?

i believe this is the plug
Thanks Daniel

I believe it was this plug

That is the plug - the two smaller wires in the middle of the row at the back of your picture are your signal + and -. If you position that plug facing you (wires going away from you) then the bottom left is the 6v+ trigger. (that may not work on many amps) I would not use the power cables in that plug if you're going with an aftermarket amp - just too small.

I used only the signal wires when I had the setup and it worked well. Good luck

One thing to consider... when you activate that rear wiring harness through the computer system (in order to send power and an audio signal to it), there are some audio settings that change. I noticed that the volume level changed (had to turn the volume up higher to get the sound that I wanted), and I believe some kind of crossover or Low Pass Filter is also activated (bass levels in the rear door speakers dropped noticeably). I pulled my factory Kicker system out, and plan to have the radio settings turned back to the non-subwoofer/stock configuration. From there I plan to add an aftermarket sub/amp, but run the power source from the battery and acquire the radio signal from the rear door speaker wires. Also.. consider what size amp you plan to run. The power lead through that harness is a relatively small wire (20 gauge, I think). Most amps want you running a bigger power lead (10 gauge or 8 gauge).

The FORScan thread says you need to activate 2 settings, but I found the best result from only activating the sub and leaving the factory setting for the speakers themselves. Results may vary depending on setup. I have the codes I tried and stuff on my Memphis Nanoboxx thread, can't remember off the top of my head which setting I settled with but I think it was Aux Sub (might have been Aux Speaker) but I know for sure I didn't like any of the X number of speaker settings other than factory.
