97-03 F150 Audio Basics
you could be right, but both of mine start to smoke before that can happen. It's like it sends a signal to the delay Relay and keeps it from shutting down. Also windows keep power. The truck was meant to let the kids watch a movie for a while but now it thinks its radio was stolen or something.
What relay are you talking about. It won't work at all if it was stolen
the relay that lets the tv, vcr, and stereo keep running[/QUOte
You have something else wrong. Does the "relay" work ok with the tablet unhooked and unwired?

i have a 2002 ford f150 lariat supercrew 5.4 triton fx4. it had a radio/tape deck that controlled the cd changer in the center console. a vcr under the back seat and a fkip down tv in the roof. also as i started removing the extra audio video i found a radio antenna booster that i think later produced smoke.
so... i've already been through the double din large screen install on another f150 may it rest in peace, and an e250 with the added hassle of software issues in another language.
this is my first truck that came with this many bells and whistles and i'm going with one of the 10" android tablet radios.
so i got it all fitted for the truck and wired in and i loved it, even though its very poorly programmed and most of the important settings are locked, in another language, or you would need a programming degree to navigate.
until i shut the truck off. when i took out the key the radio stayed on like the old one, but when i opened the door it still stayed on, and the windows kept power. the auto down window relay still worked so i switched the relays to see if that went bad. same problem. since then while testing the first unit something smoked and clicked a lot when i turned off the truck and radio was still playing. not sure if it helps but the station playing was in the frequency of the booster i found in the dash. i think the booster is where the smoke came from, not sure about the clicking though. i'm thinking a relay back there went but not sure where to start. there are so many.
please, any help would be appreciated. first time post.
Yes. If I unplug the harness from the radio everything works fine. I believe it's in the firmware of the HU. I got another one almost identical and it's been running fine without using the killswitch I've installed. The new one has newer firmware. It's been raining and the truck was out so I'm about to find out if I have any other issues. I already found the rot hole under the ebrake with power locks plug rotten.
So, I was "gifted" a used OEM F150 radio from a 1999 for my 1998 truck. (2WD/Triton V8)
My old radio won't turn off.... something bad in the on/off ****. It has the pair of flat connectors
My "new" radio has the square plug
I'm wondering if I can some how bridge the factory harness between the 2 generation of plugs.
I just added an AUX input adapter (iSimple IS31) and it works GREAT!, but, I'd like a functioning volume control and use the radio.
Anyone done something like this?

Just put in an aftermarket HU. They are cheap. Then you won't need any adapters other than a dash kit and simple wiring harness, You will have BT and AUX inputs and better sound.
Is there a list of decks that work w/o having to hack the front panel/cover? I know we will need to do work behind for getting a double-din to fit and use an adapter.
I an considering upgrading to a Kenwood DDX26BT (6.2") and don't want the front of the dash to look like a hack.
