You'll probably need to pull a new remote from a 12V circuit that is hot when the radio is on. Most factory amps have 5V turn ons that may not have the power to turn on an aftermarket amp.

I'm working on this now...I didn't see any one else responding but i will be figureing out the wires etc. What i do know so far is, the sub is DVC 8" with a very large magnet. The amp is is running in 2 channels. I don't see any sheilded wires so I'll guess right now that thier speaker level coming to the amp but testing will prove this to me. Stock power wire...i don't think that will run any after market amp. The other good part, the sub is its own part, i unhooked it and everything still works. If any one interested in my finding, I'll post more and maybe a picture or 2. I have a MTX 10" thunderform order and will be running it with an old Rockford Punch amp.

Oooh.. i saw that MTX Thunderform online and wondered how it would perform in our trucks. Yes, please post pics once you are done!

Sony Sub Replacement
So i got it done but it was not fun. I'll keep it short and sweet.
- stock amp has a 5volt remote on as some one previously mentioned. This is bad..i got a small 5 volt realy and figured this would do the trick to switch 12 volt that the new amp needs...wrong, the 5 volt is more of a sense line and has no current behind it. the tiny relay loaded the 5 volt line to .7 volts. Plan B, had to use a NPN transister with a 10,000 ohm resister to use the 5 volts to switch regular 12volt relay...PITA
- Stock amp had 2 signal wires...checking more, its a low level/RCA level already crossed over...tried direct to the amp's RCA input...worked perfect until i powered the amp of the truck's battery. Bad noise, pops etc...Plan B, use the line level converter but that means using the stock amp...wired it up, worked well!
- New problem, no place to stick aftermarket amp and stock amp. eneded up putting my amp in base of center console and haveing to screw factory amp to side of new sub.
- One more problem, stock wiring harness is not long enough to get to the side of the new sub...needed to extend wire including a shielded signal wire or about 15 inches.

I have been contemplating upgrading the Bass in my system. I was thinking about using a DVC 8" with less than 4" depth to replace the SVC one that is in the box. I was wondering what ohm the current one is. I have an '04 model. I was going to try to find a 8 ohm DVC and then hook it up parallel to drop it to 4 ohms. That is assuming the factory is a 4 ohm speaker. Then again it did occur to me to put a 4 ohm DVC in there and hook it up with a 2 ohm load on it and see how long the amplifier would last.....I'm thinking that it would last a while like that if I didn't get too crazy with it. Or maybe just hook up a small 12V fan on it. Does the factory amp in the box have a heatsink on it. Lots of questions I know...

Thanks for posting JMK. Looked like it was worth the effort! Great job! Who would think just getting a bit more bump in our trucks would be this difficult.

Your welcome Stokie.
As for the question about the factory sub..its low...i think 1.3 ohm and it is a dual voice coil already. i don't know how much difference you would get by just replacing it, i had it playing and it was moving pretty good but just didn't have the base that a larger speaker can give you.
i was out last night with the truck, over all it was worth it, sounds like an aftermarket system but it not.
