09 base sound replacement speaker reccomendations for my 2009 fx4.
Hey Guys,
I have an 09 FX4 Crew with the base sound system. I am really getting fed up with the sound system would like to replace the 4 door speakers.
I have no plans to run a 4 channel or do anything crazy with the truck I would just like a little better sound.
Saying that, I was wondering what are the best speakers for the amount of power that the factory radio puts out?
oh and are all 4 doors 6x8's?
Thanks,
Greg

Greg,
I'm with you on the sound of the factory speakers. I don't think I've ever heard a more terrible factory sound system than the one that came with my truck. I couldn't stand it any longer myself. Those things had to go. I took the advice of some people on this forum and purchased some Polk audio speakers. I had them installed at Best Buy.
I don't regret it one bit. They sound fabulous. You won't be disappointed if you go with Polk Audio. I'm almost certain that my speakers where 5X7 all the way around. I asked the installer about the speaker size being 5X7 because I was under the assumption that my truck required 6X8s. He assured me that the Polk 5X7s were the speakers I needed and even though the box is labeled 5X7 the frame is designed to fit a 6X8 speaker opening.
This guy has been installing stereo systems for a living for long time so I'm assuming he knows what he's doing. Maybe someone else can chime in on the speaker size.
I have an AMP hooked up to my speakers but I know quite a few people that run these speakers without an AMP and are completely happy with the sound.

Dang near anything will sound better than the factory speakers. I put some lower-end kicker 6x8's in mine and it sounded night and day better.
Finally decided to add a small amp a few weeks ago, so I decided to upgrade the speakers too, but for the money the kickers were pretty good.

I went with some Kicker 6x8's and got the amp featured in this thread.

The amp installation was cheap and easy. Difference was like night and day as compared to stock.

True statement! I love the crisp sound that they provide. Just installed Polk DB571s all the way around and have had no problems. They are ampd by 45watts per channel.
You may want larger front speakers than the 5x7 Polks because they are not real bassy. They compliment a sub perfectly though.

They sounded better than the stock speakers, but they were starving for power (I got the KS series 6x8's I believe...rated at 60 watts RMS) and the amp woke them right up. I was originally planning on getting a signal processor/line out converter and amp but with that little Alpine amp I doubt I'll ever follow through with those plans.

anyone know how much power is going to each channel on the stock base model radio for the 09 f150? I think if i am not installing a 4channel the cheaper speak may sound a bit better because they would be properly powered....
