Default What year / model ?

Howdy, Sorry for the long post but I find these forums well stocked with good knowledge. What's the best F150 combo within years 2005-2014?

I've been a Superduty diesel man for years, driving a left-over F350 XLT Supercab dually from work as a personal vehicle. With an overbuilt steel flatbed, and a noisy 6.0L engine, I'm not too popular with the neighbors here in the city or wife. It has 160,000 miles and runs better than new. I drive like an old man and mod for economy and reliability only.

I used to gross it out constantly both haul and tow, but now I'm selling more windows than heavy pallets of sheet goods and just commuting or visiting accounts. I need a utility vehicle that can tow a bit, haul heavy stuff in the bed and also transport the family; kids 4 and 7.

I have a 4x4 but have used it 3 times in ten years. That said, the uber heavy dually digs in real well. I'd rather have the extra hauling capacity and lower price than 4x4.

I'm thinking a F150 Supercab 4x2 in manual. Price is no object but I'm more of a XL or XLT man than Lariat if you know what I mean and the wife hates automatics.

I wrench on the 6.0L pretty heavy and love it. But it's a time sink. I was going to get a donor F250 frame and swap my cab and engine onto it. But that seems crazy. I should just get a F150.....or that's what I'm thinking.

Maybe you can point me to the most reliable / practical option.

The manual trans will help define the years for your search. I'm not sure what the last year was you could get one. If your not going to tow much, I'd get a 4.6. Less issues than the 5.4.
