Thanks for adding me.
Hi, my name is Ernie, and I live in central Maine. My dad, (Ernie Sr.) bought brand new 2001 F-150 2 wheel drive. To make a long story short, Dad has passed on and I have his truck. But the frame was rusty from sitting, It only has 68 k on the odometer. I then found a 4 wheel drive truck in a junk yard, the cab was rusted but the frame was in decent shape. I knew the owner of the yard and he sold it to me cheap. So I am in the process of doing a swap-a-roo. Only thing is, the 2X4 is a reg cab, and the 4X4 was an extended cab. I got out the tape measure. Same wheel-base. I had to take the cross member from the 2X4 and ground out the rivets, And the holes were there for the proper placement of the rear cab mounts in the extended cab frame. I used grade 8 bolts and tack welded the nuts so they are just like rivets. I will add pics when I figure out how to do it.
Nice Lift?
I paid $250 for this truck at a junk yard. Guy said he had misplaced the title, so he gave me back $150.

Cab mount cross-member all bolted in.
4X4 frame with dads 4.6 all bolted in.
Wow, Now that was scary....I had measured the two trucks before I had started this project. One is a 2001 standard cab, with an 8 ft bed. (Dads truck) The other one was an extra-cab with a short bed. I had ground the rivets holding the cross member with the standard cab mounts, Punched them out and the holes in the other frame where already there in the exact same spot. I used grade 8 bolts and nuts, torqued then and mig-welded the nuts to the bolts, just like a rivet. The reason I was scared is because I looked on one site and was comparing wheel base of the 2 trucks. I thought that I had lost 4 inches, but, I found that they were both 139 inches by the door tag. I then cut the brackets for the rear body mounts and welded them in the same spot on the new frame.
