Default Running Hot

My son has a 1995 Ford F-150 with the 4.9 six cylinder five speed manual trans. It sat up in a pasture for a few years and we have slowly worked on it and got it back on the road. One of the things I did was to flush the radiator out. After doing this, I noticed in this hot Texas weather that it runs hotter than it should. I changed the thermostat, and there was no change. I flushed the radiator again and changed to a 180 degree thermostat and still no change. When running the A/C and doing 70, it seems to run warmer than it should. When you come to a stop and idle, the temp starts to climb even higher. If you start it when it is cold and let it sit there and just idle, it seems to stay normal. Any ideas of what to do next?

Welcome to the site. I would pop the hood and let it run in the driveway. Let it get up to temperature and see if the fan clutch kicks in. That may be your issue. On the highway the air is helping to cool the motor, but at a dead stop there is no air moving through the radiator to keep things cool. This is where the fan clutch comes into play.

Hope this helps,
Tony

I would check the fan clutch and the waterpump. If it sat long enough, the waterpump fins may have corroded and fell apart. I have seen it happen several times.
