Hi all,

Here to do some research on a 2003 Crew Cab F150 with FX4 package. Any advice or tips on buying a truck with 125,000 miles is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nick

I bought mine with 147k on it, and never thought twice about it.
Do a thorough inspection, drive it as far as you can, and double check all fluids.
As long as it seems to be well-maintained, I wouldn't worry about the mileage on the engine/drivetrain.

These trucks typically go for a long time if well maintained. Generally between 80K and 120K you end up replacing quite a few things, but that's normal with any vehicle. If it is a private sale, ask the owner what maintenance was done, ie: wheel bearings, sway bar, fuel pump, brake calipers, rotors, starter, alternator....

If you are in a cold climate, check the underside for rot. Open the doors and look at the bottom seams to make sure they are not rotted.

Thanks guys. So the doors have rot and the rockers are crap as well.

Taking to a shop tomorrow to get a quote on body work and the mechanical checked out.

Started out at $7,000 for the truck. Hoping to use the info I get tomorrow in the negotiation.

Would taking the cost for the body work out of the $7k be reasonable or a I stretching to far, curious to see what you think.

Exterior is rough with scratches no major dents or dings. Interior is cloth, decent shape needs new drive cushion/pad. Tires are close to needing to be replaced.

There is also a 2003 lariat with 147,000 miles for 8,950 which has piqued my interest too.

What do you guys think. Try to get the 03 F150 FX4 cheap or suck it up and pay in the 8k range for the lariat?

Body work isn't cheap. Probably looking at $2500 for new rockers and a used door (if it can't be saved) is like $600 plus paint.
