Default Obviously new guy is obvious.

Hey guys,

Just got my first F-150. Picked up an 04 FX4 extended cab today. Traded in my 04 G35 sedan for it, and pretty much robbed the dealership.

Grew up on Fords, dad had quite a few and currently own a F-350 V-10. Also have some background in road racing with a Focus. I do not have any pictures, as I didn't finalize my deal until after dark, but it's the cherry red color.

Anyways, it's an extended cab, cloth interior. 128k miles on it, tanuea cover and a sprayed in bed liner. It does have a torn shifter boot on the tree, and I'm interested in finding out how to replace that. I also would like some info on a way to play my phone from the stock in dash. I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Any other info on typical problems and good preventive maintenance, other than the "obvious" would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Hey Lolu,

With 128k on it make sure the tranny has been looked at or you might need more than a boot for your tree. Congrats on the new truck. Post a pic when you can. Planning any mods?

Thanks for the tip! I was also told to change the plugs out, so I may have it gone over by the home-town dealership I came from. Hopefully nothing serious. I will try and grab one asap. As far as mods, I'm thinking some tint, an intake, and some other minor stuff, maybe even a nice exhaust. One thing I want pretty bad is to get my phone to plug into the stock dash to play music, but I bet I'll wait until summer to work on that.

Cheap solution if it has a cassette player is a an adapter that plugs into your earphone jack. That will work until you get something fancier hooked up. Pretty cheap too http://amzn.to/1bV5Sge

That's what I used in my G35 and old k1500! Unfortunately, this Ford doesn't have a tape deck.

Thought I'd give you guys a little bit more background. Plus I found my old pbucket password so I have photos.

First, this is what I traded in for my truck. 04 g35 that had 81k on the clock. 6spd rwd manual, loaded. I miss it, but it was a terrible car for the snow.

I also had this when I had the car. 95 K1500. 240k on the clock, but just a beast among men.

Before the G I had an 07 ZX3 S that I had put quite a bit of time and money into. Had spent a bit on the motor and some more to make it look nice. It wasn't a bad car.

While I had that focus I also DD'd this. I loved this truck. It was a fantastic, magnificent pile of ****; but it was my pile of ****. The trans was GONE, it only worked if I put the column shifter on 2nd gear. I crashed it about 4 times over the winter, when it rained, the inside got cleaned out because it leaked to much, and I bought a papa roach tape and it was the only thing that I listened to while driving it. Jesus what a heap, but MY HEAP.

Before the Focus I had an Escort ZX2. I riced it out with painted interior, terrible exhaust and the worst blue flame paint job I have ever seen. No pictures of that. I'm to ashamed. I learned my lesson though.

I do not have any pictures of my new FX4. In substitution, I provide you with me crashing the Focus at Brainerd International Raceway a few years ago after laying down an asswhooping on the BMW that was filming. He seriously could not catch me and my Focus on the track. On the long straight he would pull but as we entered the technical bit, I walked away from him. Well, at least until this happened.
