Default Newbie here

Hello All,

Just aquired a rough 1990 Lariat. I am going through the engine to get familiar and try to diagnose some issues. Anyone know what this is? I noticed this looks like it should be hooked together or something.

Welcome to the site! That hose is part of the evap. very basic description,,, has do with charcoal canister and gas fumes . Not really important to how the truck runs. You can fix it if you want but really not important.

On second look I think I may have been wrong. I think that hose is for your smog pump . kind of an intake hose for it . Should hook to some kind of filter. But still,,, not important to how the truck runs.

Thanks. What about the little metal cyclinder that air is pumping out of. I do get a check engine light after going on the freeway for a few miles. But cant seem to get it to give me codes as I have seen in some of the threads.

If you plan on owning the truck for some time I would go the auto parts store and buy a repair manual for it. In there it will tell you how to retrieve codes and what they are. It will also answer you questions about the hose and canister. I had a 94 f150 4x4 with same hose and like yours it also was messed up. never affected the way it ran . I would also guess that check engine light is about an o2 sensor. Very common.
