Hello F-150 owners. I'm happy to join your ranks. My name is Greg and I live in the suburbs of Chicago. I work from home so don't actually drive much. I own a couple of motorcycles and put most of my miles on them.
I'm starting a part time job as a motorcycle instructor that will require me to teach classes in other cities like Milwaukee and Indianapolis. I hate riding my bikes at night and I really hate riding I-65 between Chicago and Indy so I figured I needed a truck.
I'd pretty much decided on buying a Tacoma but sticker shock was killing me. Then a very sad set of events happened over the last week in that my father-in-law, a great man and friend, had a massive stroke on Monday and passed away on Wednesday.
After the funeral I bought my father-in-law's truck from my stepmother-in-law. It was a win-win for both us. I got a great deal on a truck and she doesn't have to go thru the hassle of trying to sell it.
So, instead of a new Tacoma, I have a 98 F-150 XLT 4x4 with 126k miles on it. I hope it lasts a long time. I drove it from Arkansas to Memphis yesterday and it drove like a new one. It will make the trip from Memphis to Chicago soon.
For the first time in a long time I'm hoping for some snow so I can try out the 4x4!!!
Here is quick cell phone pic:

The stain on the grond is a cup of coffee I poured out before I took the pic. I didn't even think about when I snapped the photo, but several of my friends have said things about my taking the truck by force from some local.
I know my father-in-law took good care of it but I also know he had some trouble with it. I found receipts for work that was done on an O2 sensor and several receipts that totaled over $500 for spark plugs and coils and some other stuff. It also looks like he might have installed a remote starter but I don't think its working.
As I get to know this truck and go thru it to ensure reliability I'll be search and asking a lot of questions here. Looking forward to being part of this community.
If any of you folks are into motorcycles, I'm also gbw on TheGSResources.com, Maximum-Suzuki.com, and ADVrider.com.
Have a great day,
Greg

Welcome to the forums Greg. I'm sure your father-in-law would be happy to know that you have the truck and will take care of it. Sorry for your loss, especially so close to Christmas. Has to be rough on your wife and Mother-in law too.
