Howdy Tyler! I'm Taylor, welcome aboard! What kind of upgrades are you thinking? I had an '07 FX4 supercrew with the 5.4. If you're looking for performance, you'll want a tuner with custom tunes (I had an SCT X4 with tunes from MPT). That old build thread is around this site somewhere. It was mild, just a level, 35's, and entry level sound system.

Ya so I'm looking for performance.ance want to get a tuner first with a moniter to moniter vechile readings. I have no idea what to go with and where to start. Would eventually like to do exhaust and idk about a CAI because I heard sometimes the stock one is better

Then a tune is your best starting point. The "canned" tunes on the device are okay, but the custom tunes are way better. Some guys have run 5 star tuning, I decided on MPT myself. If you're looking for one to monitor, you'll want an SCT Livewire with dash pod. It's about $650 without the pod. I believe the SCT X4 can be mounted and used for that as well, but it isn't as fancy of a screen, however it's $450 (second link).

Found a link to my old build thread, it's 3 pages but it's got everything I did to it.

From what I found, the stock intake is pretty much perfect. Without a custom tune taking into account the new airflow you can actually cause a lean condition on the engine by adding a CAI. Also, with the oiled filters, if you over oil them you can damage the mass air flow sensor.

Exhaust sounds cool, not sure it really helps in terms of performance on these engines though. I had true dual straights with no crossovers. It came off each side, went to the two cats, then 2.5" pipe back to 12" cherry bomb glass packs, then went down to 2.25" pipe straight out the back to dual 3"x14" tips. It sounded awesome. Haha

I blew up a rebuilt transmission while running the tune, but I don't believe the tune caused it. The rebuild was never quite right from the moment I picked it up. The shifting wasn't very quick or firm, and it had a lot of lag when switching between reverse and drive. They refused to ever look into my complaints so I'm sure it was just a shoddy job. When I got it rebuilt again AAMCO did it, and it was perfect. Truck felt like a beast with those tunes, even with 35x12.5 MT's and 3.73 gears.

You'll be surprised how much that tune wakes your engine up. I don't see a lot of guys on here running MPT, but the mustang guys swear by them. (or at least that's how it was when I looked) They're great tunes and I had no issues. Very easy people to work with.
