New to the site. First Ford Truck. I'm a highly active member on a wrangler forum and a zx6r forum. I'm on here for tech. I can't really afford to gear ***** out on this truck with my wrangler and zx6r.
I wanted something so i don't put so many miles on my Jeep Wrangler. I also want a truck to pull a trailer for my 06 zx6r and some track days. Got a 2000 F150 XLT Regular Cab Long Bed 2wd 4.6L V8 for $1000. It's got 290k, with 90k on a rebuild. 300 miles on new tires from Discount WITH certs. From what i researched, it has 3.08 Ford 8.8. I'm doing nothing to the truck for now except shoring up things that need TLC. I want it stock for the most part, i MIGHT regear to 3.73 and put an Eaton LSD in. Haven't decided. Only other potential upgrade is rear disc brakes. Window tint is dark and A/C works wonderfully for Phoenix summer.
Main things up first are brakes. Long pedal travel, then brakes catch 100%. Gonna try a bleed, then master. Pads and rotors are new. Next is something sludgy in the coolant bottle (i'm 99.9% sure it's NOT a head gasket issue). I'll be draining and doing a long-time reliable clean out method, to include draining block coolant cavity. After that is a tranny drip. It's from the front, so i assume a front seal or torque converter. Outside of that, there's some creaks and clunks. Surely some front end work is in my future. Bottom of vehicle is pretty dry outside of tranny and a right rear axle seal leak.
Bench needs a reupholster and pad refresh. It's getting a Class 3/4 hitch receiver ASAP. I'll be restoring headlights. I have an awesome method that protects for years. Ask me, i'll give you the haps. Anyway, i hope to find useful info and some happy people that like to joke around. Can't stand when people are too serious....
