Been reading here since we bought this 2012 Lariat 4x4. We were looking for a third vehicle that would be handy if others are down and thought a truck would be handy. We've always had dads that had them (which meant we did as well), until my FIL's passing a year ago. Anyway, we didn't want to spend much for a spare but ran across this one and fell in love with it. It has 160k on it--but the body and interior look like a well cared for 5 yr old truck. The doors don't even have any dings. I kept thinking the thing was repainted but I have yet to find any hint of a paint job. We looked at several slightly newer trucks and all looked worse. It was in in Illinois most of it's life and underneath has more "age" than more other vehicles, but topside the thing is in fantastic condition--other than the typical corner below the second door has been worked on to some extent and the rocker panels under the cab and on the bottom where you can't see have been touched up with paint. I'll try to clean and put something on those areas and see how that lasts. Other than that, it must have been kept inside when not out burning up the road. The miles bothered me, but I just happened to run across two people that had way more miles on their F-150s with 3.5 EBs. Hopefully the mechanics were taken care of as we as the body and inside. Time will tell. If not, we haven't sunk a lot into it. Has a great 6 mo 6k miles warranty that covers everything important.

We looked for a truck simply as a truck, but this is so nice we love riding around in it. (Neither one of us is a car person. Haven't owned one in many decades.) It rides about as well as our nice GMC Acadia (which I dearly love), and better than our Chrysler T&C Limited. After having it a few days, we kidded and said we ought to get another one and get rid of the van!

Been trying to read up on things to look for and need to be done and have enjoyed fooling with our new old truck that I hope to have a really long time.

Thanks. Your milage is encouraging. As I think I mentioned, buying something with 160k was and still is a little concerning, much less a 6 cyl. It would be one thing if I knew how it was maintained, but not knowing that adds a little to the concern. I assume the person did a good amount of highway driving (and maybe towing), so you would think being out on the highway the person if only marginally intelligent would keep it well maintained where it counts. But hearing more stories such as yours is always reassuring.

Welcome! I have a 4x4 of the same generation. You can get the rear airbag suspension kit for the 2wd truck and remove the lift blocks. That way it’ll sit level even when unloaded. Makes getting stuff into and out of the bed easier, too.

Thank you, good sirs. I enjoy good advice as I figure out the new-to-me truck. This pic angle makes the height of the rear look more pronounced. It's obviously there, just not as much as it seems in this pic.

(Apologies for two threads. This one, the first didn't seem to show up for a few days and after I created the other post.)
