Hello. I joined because of some of the members precipitation is the use of FORScan. What a great program. I have a Taurus. Have just ordered two 80 bit transponder (SA)keys with fob attached for my uncles 2014 F150 Extended cab with a 3.7 flex fuel engine.
I hooked up my laptop to my Taurus and tested the cooling fan activation. Then went to my uncles and looked at the service functions available. He lost 1 key. Has 1 key. Looks like I can save him 200 dollars from what the dealer wanted. -Actually twice that since I ordered two key so he'll have 3 in all.
The dealer wanted 200.00 for 1 key w/fob and 60 dollars to program it. Even if you just bought a 3rd SA-80 bit transponder key to program as a spare, ebay has reputable sellers that back their keys for less than 20 dollars ea.
If you only have 1 key you can use Forscan to program others. I already had an ELM327 OBD2 to USB for software I've been using to read codes that was free at the time. Forscan is the 1st to give me as much control over the vehicle computer for free. I suggest you get it before they start charging for it. The Extended license is free for two months and renewable for free after that, as long as you use the laptop version. I haven't priced an ELM327 in a long time but their not very much.
FORScan charges for the phone app version. It's a little more handy but almost everyone has a laptop. There is an ongoing thread that shows what some members have done to their truck using this software. Super cool.
