Hey folks, new here, at the moment own 2 F150s, a '97 XL supercab shortbox 3 door 4.2L that's bound for the recyclers, failing engine. The other one is a '98 XLT supercab 3 door shortbox 4.6L that is taking over, nice trucks...too bad about the 4.2 issues with coolant entering the oiling system as did my '97 when she decided a month ago it was a good time to blow an intake gasket.

Spent the better part of today swapping some stuff from F150 to F150 and this site came up in a search for a wiring issue, came in handy.

Anyways, about me, licensed mechanic in the greater Vancouver area of BC here (the irony when a mechanic won't rebuild or replace an engine !) 37ish years old, into cars, computers and good home audio.

Take it easy on me, only been a F150 owner for a couple of years...still gettin used to it all but love a full sized half ton !

Welcome from SoCal. Too bad about the 97. I just did the intake gaskets on my 2000. 4 hours off, 4 hours back together +$200 in parts. I would think you could get a lot more selling it with the motor repaired than at the junkyard unless the rest of the truck is trashed, but hey, I'm retired so time ISN'T money for me. lol Good luck.

I fixed the top end...new intake gaskets, all nicely sealed...got a week out of it then a squeak developed so being the mechanic I am, yanked the belt off...squeak still there from the front of the engine...around the bottom and I can also hear bottom end bearing noise. the engine, for all intents and purposes is a goner. besides, got the '98 at a screamin deal
