Smile New here

I don't have an F150... yet. But let me introduce myself and tell you a little about said F150.

I'm Matt. I'm from a coastal town in Connecticut. I'm no stranger to working on cars and trucks, as I'm currently working on a father-son project turned son project car, it's a '73 Jeep which I'll detail later if interested. I currently own and drive a 2006 Ranger FX4 Level II, 4.0 SOHC with a 5 speed. Some mods on it, including a homemade exhaust using a Thrush Welded muffler, Maxxis Buckshot mudders and a Hurst short-throw. I'm a college student, in my second year, so I'm still a young'un at 19. But with some things that have happened in my life, I feel much older lol. You'd get one of them if you understand what I mean about the project thing with the Jeep.

The F150 I "have" I'm currently not the owner of. My grandfather's in his mid-late 70's and has it. His Parkinson's and Dementia have made it so he can no longer drive it (too big, and his driving isn't suggested by me, grandma, or doctors), but he can still get around through town whether it's him driving or me chauffeuring him. He bought it in July of last year. I've driven it and used it to tow my 21 foot camper. Since he can no longer drive it, we had been in talks of me possibly taking ownership of this truck. We're in the process of insuring it, and by the end of next week I'll be the proud owner of said truck, though I'd rather not have it happen on the circumstances if you understand. Both his truck and my truck are paid off, so his will become my daily driver and my Ranger will be parked until a later date, unregistered and uninsured. Basically, I'm having a truck handed to me, which isn't something I like very much, but it's still an upgrade from what I had. I'd take my grandfather's health over his truck in a heartbeat, but he wants me to have it. Heck, so does my grandmother because he just worries about his truck and tries to "escape" things that don't really happen. In my eyes, it's for the better. I typically work for everything in my life, and had enough saved from a young childhood to afford my Ranger and pay it off. I went with that being practical, knowing that I can afford the gas and such over the 150 or 250 I'd have loved having more. Which is why I choose to keep it and not sell it at this point, due to the sentimental value and everything that's hard to explain in writing.

It's a 2008 Lariat supercab with what I believe is the 6.5' bed. 5.4L, 4 speed auto. It has mostly all of the bells-and-whistles. I think the only things it doesn't have is a power passenger seat, rear window, and buttwarmers. Tan interior, leather seats, etc. Much of an upgrade from what I have now. Bone stock, 8k miles. Only "mod" is the trailer brake controller.

And because of my customizing roots, I already have a mod list. I've searched through and through and listened to various sound clips. It's not a heavy list, just an exhaust and intake for right now with a tuner down the road. Because i'll be using it to tow the 4000lb camper and 5000lb Jeep, I'm still mostly up in the air for the exhaust. But my choice right now is a Magnaflow cat-back (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-16615/), fully stainless and all of that. It's going to be a SI/DO setup, split rear. The tips will be changed to a slash-cut without the rolled tip, probably 4" outlet. Intake'll be a K&N FIPK. If anyone has towed with this setup I'd love to have any feedback. Through the internet I found the best deal at Performance Peddler, saving a few hundred bucks making both almost to be the price of the exhaust alone at Summit. I'll wait on the tips to see if the ones Magnaflow sends are to my liking after all. I have enough saved up for Jeep mods that I can afford both on the same day that I get this truck.

I'll keep everyone updated on the status of this whole deal.

Since threads are worthless without any pics, here's one.

Thanks,
Matt

Nice ride. Welcome to the site and the forums, good folks and great info. Be sure and try out the search function tons of info there also. The only thing I have a preference to in what you listed is, for towing I prefer a full dual exhaust instead of the cat back so the engine can breath better. But catback will help also. Good luck with the mods.
