New guy needs advice
Hi all I've been looking at the Forum and need some urgent advice. I'm sure it's all available but I'm pressed for time and need to make an offer on a vehicle. It's an 87 F150 6 cylinder 4 speed T18 trans I believe 4x4 with a 4 inch lift. I will use the vehicle as a partial daily driver but also will try to make some extra money with it. The heaviest load I would carry would be 1/2 cord of hardwood firewood which I believe weighs approx 1700 lbs. I know an F150 is 1/2 ton truck but if I take it carefully will I be asking for trouble? It would probably only be once a week or so and fairly local. From what I read on this site the T18 is a reliable transmission. Is this correct? I want the potential decent mpg's of a 6 cylinder but also be able to carry some weight if necessary. Is there anything not tremendously costly I can do to upgrade the truck (F250 springs, different shocks ect) that might make this more feasible or is the drive train the limiting factor? I know many will advise to by an F250 or F350 but it's just not in the cards. Any advice or comments are greatly appreciated. I promise in the future to due my due diligence and search the sight before asking any questions.

John

Thanks to all for the welcome. I looked at the truck and it has a tremendous amount of chassis rust. Am debating if I should buy it and try and clean and POR 15 as much as I can. I really like the truck otherwise.
Hi guys, I'm real excited after thinking about it for years I finally bought a truck. It's a 1994 F150 4x4 302 automatic. Will need lots of work to get it where I want it to be. I will most definitely be asking lots of questions (after doing my research). My next step will be to create another thread with pictures. I'm looking forward to learning a lot about trucks in general and my truck specifically.
