New Ford troubleshooter here.
Hey Everyone, was troubleshooting today on one of my 5 fords that I own. I finally decided to register because I can never find a good answer to vehicle problems on google anymore. When it comes to the really weird oddball problems I think it's best to ask real people that can give a real answer..
There have been many fun ford challenges that drove me insane before I finally figured out the problem. Need a place to perhaps vent, ask questions, or share what I've learned and hopefully keep some of you from getting a headache.
Speaking of, This is my lesson for the day. When connecting an aftermarket dash cam with radar sensors on a Ford with dual batteries, DO NOT connect the black (negative wire) from the camera, control unit, or display to the ground wire on the reverse light. Connect it directly to ground!
I first wired it up that way and whenever I put the truck into reverse the starter solenoid would heat up to the point I couldn't touch it. What I basically did was create a ground fault back to positive whenever I put the truck into reverse (There is a reason that little reverse light acts as a resistor). The worthless Chinese manual was not clear about how to ground the system properly. My first clue should have been the reverse lights not working after I tapped the Dash camera system into both the positive and negative on the reversing light. I'm lucky I noticed it quickly or who knows what other components I could have cooked.
Hope to share war stories with you all real soon.
