Default New to this.

I have been a new member here for a little while, but I usually just read and try to learn. I have a 2003 Ford F-150 Heritage Edition. It's a beautiful baby and I just had a scare with it. I'd like to know what others think about this. My father and nephew told me that they heard a noise coming from the rear-end of my truck. I couldn't hear it. They told me it was getting louder; I still couldn't hear it. I took it to Goodyear they told me that I needed a new rear-end; cost $3550.00. I nearly keeled over. I took it to Legacy Ford they told me that I needed a new rear-end, new rear axle bearings, 8 new spark plugs, 8 new coil packs, two new lower control arms (front end), oil change (just done 2 months ago); cost $3,656.47. I cried for two days. Then I took it to a new shop and what I found out was that the rear-end needed a shaft seal and new dope; cost $245.45. I am a recent widow. My husband passed away late last year. This truck was his two tone baby. In the time since he has been gone I have found 4 clear instances of people attempting to "shine me on" this is just the latest. Is this what I can expect all the time? Will I always have to get 3 different estimates for the same problem? My husband always did all his work himself. He even had a lift in his shop. Now I'm confused and disappointed that I find so many dishonest tradesmen in the field. Is this all I have to look forward to? Thanks-Two Tone
