How about those twins
Hey guys ... Just bought my first vehicle and since I was 10 I wanted a F 150 so graduated university and got the vehicle I wanted. Was looking at used but figured price wise new was the way to go. The dealership had the truck i wanted but had the ecoboost engine in it instead of the 5.4L ... Figured I'd try it and the second I stepped on the gas I fell in love with it ... Walked in the next day and bought it! Figured I'd sign up here if I have any questions about mods in the future.

First, congrats on the twins! My buddy had twins several years ago and I wouldn't wish that on anyone lol! Hopefully you have family nearby to help, because you'll probably need some extra assistance.
My wife has a 2010 CRV, which is probably comparable in size to the Rouge. We have a toddler seat and infant seat in the back and there's plenty of room. Between a VW and a Nissan, I’d pick a Nissan all day. I’m suspect of VW’s reliability, and I’ve found that Nissans are typically just plain fun to drive and typically laid out very well.
And I know you’ve ruled out a minivan, but if you have any thoughts whatsoever about having more kids, just suck it up and get the minivan. We also have a 9 year old, and the CRV is fine with just my wife and the kids when the 9 year old can sit in the front seat but it really won’t fit all 5 of us for anything else than very short trips. Once funds permit we’ll get something larger, and after years of my wife swearing she’d never own a minivan, after talking to all of her friends that have switched to minivans she’s realized that it’s by far the most practical solution and is dead set on an Odyssey now.
Having driven a Plymouth Voyager quite a bit in my teens, I know a FWD minivan is pretty capable in the snow (and still relatively so off-road). For Canadian winters, I think an AWD Sienna would be more than fine especially with a set of snow tires. I can’t imagine a Rouge or Tiguan will do any better in any amount of snow than an AWD Sienna.
