Default Heya

Picked up my father in law's`05 F150 supercab fx4 a few months after he passed - yes, the one with that engine.
So far, at 148k km, so good; just a bit of belt squeal when it's cold (which in Canada is a thing). There's some mostly minor repairs and replacements required and now that life has settled down a bit I can finally start crossing off the list.
Primarily going to be searching for maintenance advice, repair tips, part brand suggestions and the like.

I'm also open to amusing suggestions to cover the the hub lock solenoid (Apparently, they don't make actual little umbrellas) since I just replaced it and the replacement didn't come with the cover (I screwed up, not the seller).

Welcome to the forum from another 05 owner w/the 5.4. If you have some thin sheet metal or go to Home Depot or Lowes they sell some & just fabricate one & drill a couple holes in it & use the screws that attach the solenoid to the firewall to attach the cover. Check your idler puller & the 3 idler pulleys that they are not the cause of the noise. I have 88K on my 05 & I am planning on replacing mine this week.

I've seen some home made covers for the solenoid, was thinking something tongue in cheek to remind me to pay attention. (I have a slightly warped sense of humour).

I hadnt considered inspecting the idler pulleys given how fast the squeal goes away, even in -30c.
Another line for the list and appreciate the mention, a lot has changed since I tinkered (my last vehicle had a carbeurator, heh).
