Hey, everyone!
I've been an F150 owner for a long time; probably close to 10 years. My '03 supercrew has been pretty good to us, but it is needing some serious work this summer. Last year when I was replacing the rusted out rear spring shackles, the frame crunched and cracked out on the driver's side behind the cab. I started tearing it apart about a month ago, and have been working on it as time allows. So far, I pulled the badly rusted out bed, welded in a small patch on the side of the frame rail, picked up a used bed that was in slightly better shape from a u-pull-it, and today I pulled the fuel tank. My plan is to reinforce the frame where the damage was with some 3/16" steel plate, and box it right behind the cab, and reinforce the other side in the same area just to be safe. I am going to use some Corroseal on the rest of the frame rust and paint it with some rusty metal primer and then top coat it with rustoleum. Then I have some patches on the crossmember for the front of the new bed where the fiberglass bed sides attach.
After that it will be on to the exhaust manifolds that have rusted off of the engine, and replacing the muffler, if I can find one, but that is another project that I might not get to yet this year. The rockers and floor on my truck are in bad shape as well, but I just need it to hang on a while, and keep the exhaust fumes out, so I will patch the floor as best I can for now.
I'm looking forward to being a part of this community, and learning from everyone here. Thanks for having me.
