Question Hey All

Just joined the forum so I'm the FNG (Ford New Guy). I have an F100 1966 with a 352 V8 and I just got a brand new (to me) 1984 L6 4.9.

I was raised in Detroit and every one in my family in the previous generations worked for Ford's in one aspect or another. Most of them at the Dearborn Rouge plant. My cousin is now working over at the Kansas city truck plant.

Best thing that happened to me lately was I got the 84 running after I bought it from a guy who had it sitting in his yard for over two years. The thing run like a champ once I found the borken wire from the silinoid to the ignition switch. Then I decided to give it a tune up and get new oil and filters and that's when it started acting up. I should have known not to fix anything when it ain't broke but I did it now I got to figure it out.

When ever it heats up it doesn't want to run any more. As soon as I give it gas it wants to stall out. If I let off the gas soon enough it will continue to idle. If it stalls, it starts right back up but as soon as I try to gi it will want to stall. I got it home last night by very slowly, and I'm talkin slowly giving it the tiniest little bit of gas until I got up to 25 mph and held it there. If I even slipped a little and gave it too much at once it stalled and I had to start all over again.

I'm not sure where to go with it at this point. I'm thinking it might be the fuel pump or some new fangled sensor these "new" trucks have. I don't know.

Sounds like it's probably the accelerator pump in the carb. With the engine off, remove the aircleaner and open the throttle. See if you see gas spray in the carb.
