Default Hello From Ohio

Hello all. found this site from a google search. looked at a couple and this one caught my eye with the number of members, responses and wealth of information.

I have been a Ford person my whole life. my first car was an 81 Mustang, was my parents hand me down. after that I got a little sports car 87 Honda Prelude. only had it for 2 years. I needed to go back to a Ford. I picked me up a 1991 Ford Ranger 2WD scab in 92. It was less than a year old with 10k on it, got a great deal to boot. Well it has been my daily driver for almost 22 years. now has 256k on her. she has been on heck of a vehicle for me, but with my family size i needed a bigger vehicle. So I picked up a 2001 F-150 Screw 4x4 5.4L. have only had it for a couple of days now and love her. hopefully she will give me the same loyalty my ranger did.

Little bit of a background on myself. I have been an Auto Technician for about 25 years. my first 14 years at a Ford Dealer (10 as a Ford Tech and 4 user car reconditioning). I then spent about 8 years at an independent shop working on everything. I am now at a dealer again but doing user car reconditioning. I really love doing this type of work.

I stopped at the dealer right when the new style f150 came out so I am a little out of the loop on common repairs and info. I will have some questions for sure and hope to be able to chime in with my experience to help other members out.

Back to my new toy. I picked her up at the current dealer i work for. It was traded in on a new vehicle. It is in pretty good shape. has about 99k on her. the 5.4L runs pretty smooth. body is in pretty decent shape. just have a little bit of rust on the bottom of the doors and a rust hole starting in the right rear cab corner. the bottom rockers a pretty solid a few small rust bubbles here and there. I'm goingto have to do some work to it but nothing I cant handle. my 2 biggest concerns a a growling noise up front and 2 broken exhaust manifold studs on pass side.

sorry for the long post. great site by the way.

Welcome from SoCal. So great to have new members with a mechanical background. Much easier to talk nuts and bolts. Welcome.

Hello and welcome to the site!

Now, about that 1981 Ford Mustang. Easily the worst iteration of the mustang lineup.

no way. the 74-78 were the worst. ugly as sin. the 71-73 right behind it.

that 81 mustang went through my parents then 3 teenagers. never had a single engine problem. now the transmission was another story but i kinda had a hand in that. neutral slams haha. had the 200ci inline 6 1 barrell. not a speed demon but tough as nails. had over 300k on it when we sold it.

thank you for all the welcomes.
