Default Hello from a GM convert.

As my username states, my name is Bret. I live in Tucson, AZ.

I am a GM guy, who comes from a GM family. But, this summer, when shopping for a different vehicle I made an ultimatum to the auto industry...I am 6'4", and far too often in the past I would have to recline the seat so I could see out the dashboard. I decided no more. I'll never do that again. That combined with my absolute refusal to buy something that didn't roll off an American assembly line (I will NEVER be part of that problem!) gave me two choices...a Nissan Cube, and a 2009 F150. Well, I am married...to a woman...so that eliminated the Cube as a choice. So, as of this summer I've been driving a 2009 F150 STX with the 4.6L 2v engine (I have found out that the 2V puts me in the underclass of aftermarket parts, but I think I've made the best of it).

Those who make Chevy apparently are under the impression that your average truck owner has shrunk in height over the last few years, and their truck (and car) designs abundantly reflect that. It is unfortunate...I went in really wanting a Silverado, but couldn't find one that fit me. So now I'm a Ford owner for the last six months...and that time, and this forum, has shown me that perhaps that's for the best.

This isn't my first post. I've been reading this forum since I bought the truck. And, the last week or so I've been posting. I think it is great that this place exists. One of the advantages of owning the most popular truck is that the mutual support community is much bigger and the knowledge much more diverse. This forum has helped me reap the benefits of that so far, and I am grateful to all of those who have given me great advice...whether I posted asking for it, or someone else did and I benefited by reading it.

I have not yet decided on a name for my truck, but I think I've given her a good home. Since I brought her home, I have bought her a Ranch Tonneau cover, a Plasmaglow LED lightbar for the tailgate, heavyweight rubber mats for the tailgate and the bed, new dashmat, Caltrend neoprene seat covers, carpet to cover the vinyl floor, an Injen CAI (one of only two types available for my stepchild 2V engine), a magnaflow "straight through" cat-back duel exit exhaust, and a hypertech programmer which seems to have not only waken her up, but she's taking less money from me for gas now.

I'm not really a "car guy". Though I possess basic knowledge, my knowledge of automobiles is quite limited compared to many others here. That said, i am hoping there is something I can contribute to the community over the coming months and years.

So, now it is safe to say I am now a Ford Guy. First On Race Day!
