Default Hello, excited to be here.

Good Morning everyone,

I do not currently have an F150, YET, but I can tell you I have been looking and contemplating for a few years on what I will get when I can. I once owned a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT and quickly fell in love with Ford trucks. Such a great little truck that did everything I asked it to do, with no issues. I live in VA and am active duty military. Originally from NY, moved to FL after college and joined from there in 2007. I am married with four children. Right now I am focusing my research efforts to decide between the V8 or the 3.5 EcoBoost. I don't have anything to tow, as of yet, but plan on getting a boat in retirement. Would also like to get an RV, nothing crazy big. I do not like to buy and resell vehicles so when I get this truck I plan to have it until it dies, or I do, which ever comes first. I am very interested in finding out from the horses mouths on how their trucks are holding up/handling and lasting the longest without major problems. Lastly, I'm glad to be here and look forward to reading what people are doing with their trucks.

V/R
Kevin

Thank you for your service and welcome to the site! I feel we are a lot alike when it comes to what we are looking for in a truck, I looked for about four years before I pulled the trigger. I went with the 5.0 for the reason I plan to drive this truck for at least twenty years and thought the turbos on the ecoboost would need replacing and be costly all the way around in that time frame. Best of luck.

Thanks man, it’s my pleasure to serve this amazing country.
I have noticed that many of the Senior Members on this forum have the 5.0. I have really been leading towards the eco Boost until a friend of mine, who owns a bunch of Fords and is very mechanical inclined told me the Coyote was the way to go. How has yours been with fuel economy, in real life everyday driving?

Default Been a 5.0 owner for a month.

My truck is a super cab 4WD with the off road package
I choose the 5.0 because my mechanic thought the Ecoboost engines were “fragile”. With a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds it’s hard to see why you would need the 3.5 but I guess they do get slightly better gas mileage. And the 2.7 seems to small to me. I only have 900 miles on my truck but I have managed to get 20.8 MPG on a tank that was mostly highway (calculated, the computer was about a mile per gallon more) my around town mileage is not very impressive but over all I have averaged 16.5

My mileage isn't good around 12mpg but there are reasons why; 4wd, 6" lift, 35" tires, absolutely no long drives so far. I will have owned my truck one year next month and I almost have 2500 miles, my drive to work is only 3 miles each way. I do have buddies that normally get 16 to 18 miles per gallon and I probably would too if I drove more.

You don't say what year/price range you're looking at.
