Hello!
Hi all! I missed this forum a second ago. I was looking for it, as I know AtariAge has an intro forum and I'm very active over there.
My Dad worked for General Motors almost the whole time I was growing up, so it was a surprise to me when he purchased two Ford vehicles in 1990 and 1991. One was a new Ranger, which he drove. The other was a 1982 F-100, my first vehicle. I was 15, so I could not drive it right away. I've been driving Ford vehicles ever since, with the excpetion of a couple of Mazdas that, between the two of them, have taken me a grand total of less than 200 miles before they broke down.
Here's a list of the vehicles I have owned or had in my driveway for one reason or other:
1982 F-100, 5.0 liter, 3 speed auto, ~ 200K, long bed, all white w/ blue interior.
1998 F-150 XL, 4.2L, 5 speed, red/brown, had it since it was new and I still drive it every day. Currently has ~180K miles.
1997 Ford Ranger, 4 banger, 5 speed manual, step side, all green, don't remember the miles.
1988 Ford Thunderbird, 5.0 liter, C series auto tranny?, body kit, orange with black racing stripes, killed by rust in the cylinders and sold for scrap at roughly 175K miles.
1986 E-150, 5.0 liter, C series tranny?, gray over red with aftermarket carpet, 4x captain's chairs, fold down rear seat/full size bed, real wood cup holders, lots of goodies. Had close to 200K miles. Big vehicle, BTW.
1991 F-150 XLT Lariat, 5.0 liter, E4OD tranny?, supposed to be all blue (I think, gotta go look) but it needs paint. Guesstimated at 116K miles, partly due to the Wal*Mart service reminder on the windshield. Saved from Cash 4 Clunkers! The previous owners had owned it at just under a year before they sold it to a dealership. Got it six weeks ago and though it needs work it runs strong.
Worth mentioning is the 1982 Clet Cavalier I drove for a couple weeks before I got my '98 F-150.
And the clunkers:
1985 ish Mazda 323 (I think). Coughed up the alternator right after I dragged it almost 2,000 miles cross country. Traded in for the Ranger above. No idea what the miles were (if the odometer even worked).
1986 Mazda B2000. 2.0 liter I4, 5 speed stick, lowered w/ 16 inch Clet rims, currently dead at ~ 225K miles due to numerous massive oil leaks. Woulda gone to Cash 4 Clunkers if we'd had it a year, but it would not have needed the engine disabled!
Oh, and in case you're wondering, here's the breakdown on my username:
shadow: That's the nickname I used in laser tag. It was in use already when I chose it, but after my playing roughly 50 games, winning many of them, and opening challenges to people, the disc jockey who had it dropped his challenge for it. I chose it because I stuck to my targets like their own shadows would. I dressed in dark colors as well.
460: Go figure this one out. This is a Ford forum. I've never owned a Ford with this size engine, but I chose the number because it's the same as the displacement on one of Ford's engines. So yes, the number is, in fact a Ford reference.
This, or some facsimile thereof, has been my username for virtually everything since I got my first Internet access in 1998 right after I got a brand new Ford truck!
