Default Ford F-150 steering problem

I have a 2012 Ford F-150 XLT super cab standard bed pickup that I had to replace the front suspension on due to an accident that I had. While taking it to the body shop after replacing the suspension on it to get the fender and door replaced, I noticed that the power steering was out on it. This is when I found out that it had electrical power assisted steering on the rack n pinion. I ordered a new one from RockAuto and replaced the old one. This one had 1" or more free play in the steering and I found it difficult to keep my truck in its lane pulling my travel trailer. I ordered another one from the same place and replaced it again and still I have the play in my steering. After two new, not remanufactured rack units, I am at a lose as to what might be the problem. Any suggestions as to where to look next? By the way, both times that I replaced the rack unit, I took it to a front end shop and had it aligned. Both times, the front end mechanic stated that the front end only needed minor adjustments to get it back into alignment. I live on the road now pulling a travel trailer around and it wears me out driving this rig down the road with this play in the steering. Looking for a way to get this fixed.
