First Time Long Time
Hey All,
I've been a Ford guy my whole life and have the privilege of A-Plan for life. I've decided to get a '13 FX2 Super Crew in the near future but was can't decide between the Ecoboost and 5.0 V8. I've read alot of bad press on the reliabilty of the fuel economy and the engine dying. But, test driving the Ecoboost was a lot of fun. Is there something I need to look at regarding when the truck was made to make sure all the updates have been performed or specific questions to ask the dealer? I don't want my truck in the shop every month and the V8 might be a safer though less sexy alternative.

Welcome from SoCal. Ford has sold more than a half a million e-boost trucks in the last 2 years and there is a known engine failure of about 1 %. The NTSB to date considers this percentage acceptable and has taken no action with Ford. All things considered that's a very small number of failures, unless you happen to own one. Warranty??? Unfortunately Ford has yet to acknowledge this as a manufacturing problem and therefore not come up with a reasonable fix yet. Do some research because there's a ton of guys that love their E-Boost. Remember Ford has E-Boosts in several other vehicles as well. Good luck with your purchase.
Welcome to the forums. All I can say is I love my 2013 Ecoboost. I also had a 2012 with the 5.0, but haven't looked back or regretted going with the EcoBoost one bit. Either way you go, you'll enjoy the truck; in the end you have to live with your decision, so do your homework and post up the new truck when your purchase it.
