Default First time Ford owner

Hi everyone. I just bought my first Ford - a '96 F150 xlt 4x4 5.0 v8 w/ 170,000 miles. I've only ever owned a Toyota pickup which I decided to sell and get something bigger with 4wd. Looking forward to getting some good use out of this truck!

The truck runs like new at idle but when accelerating I get a steady clicking noise. From what I've read it sounds like this is most likely the exhaust manifold. If this turns out to be the case, how urgent is making the fix? Nothing like a fun repair so soon after buying!

Welcome.

The exhaust manifold or exhaust manifold gasket (more likely) should be fixed as soon as possible to not burn out your exhaust valve.

Welcome from SoCal. LoCo LT is correct however the factory manifold did not use a gasket. If the manifold is not cracked I would suggest having it surfaced then reinstall it with "new" bolts and anti-seize compound following mfg's torque specs.
