Default A first time ford owner

First I'd like to say hello to everyone on this forum. As in the title I'm a first time ford owner. My sister's husband died and she gave me his truck for my son and I to fix!
Yes, there is rust holes in the rear fender wheels, engine runs good and sounds solid. Only problem is the gas economy on this truck The truck is a stock 93 F150XL, 6 cly auto with a stock rear. When she gave me the truck, it was stated that it got 11 miles to the gallon. I've checked this and its true. I'm trying to improve the economy of this vehicle, if possible. Has anyone ever bolted an overdrive to the transmission or installed a two speed differential. Research indicates that these may be two possibilities but thought I'd ask some real truck people first.
Thanks
Greg
