Finally Back in a Truck
My last real truck was a 1973 dodge power wagon. Went off to college got married, had kids and ended up driving SUVS. Owned a Tahoe, Explorer, and Expedition. Could never convince the wife to buy a truck. So after years of borrowing a trailer or buddy's truck to haul stuff, I decided it was time to start looking into a truck. My expedition was 12 years old and after my last trip to canada I realized the 5.4 was getting tired...I came back from that trip, took the truck to the tire shop to fix a tire that picked up a rock on that trip. While the shop looked at the tire I went to the local Ford dealer to just look at trucks. My current ride was dirty from the trip, had a rusty spare rim/tire on it, I didn't have the third seat in it yet. I was just looking had no real intentions on buying....well as the story goes the man that always refused a ride and walked everywhere he went because he knew that once he accepted a ride he would never want to walk again....happened to me. I drove a new 2011 F150FX4 and wondered why in the heck I was still driving that tired expedition. The FX had 20 inch tires so i was expecting a harsh ride. Boy was I wrong, it rode so smooth compared to my XLT sport. The power of the 5.0 was stronger than the 5.4....needless to say i started making calls to my credit union while testing that truck and to the wife to get the green light...I sat down with the salesman and GM and after some number crunching we came to a bottome line that worked...I drove off in a new truck that day with mixed emotions.......I am still learning all this Truck has to offer. Completely amazed at how far they have come. My old Expedition lasted on the lot one week before it sold. So much for high gas prices hurting sales of trucks and SUVs. We still need tow vehicles.
